- Key Points About First Grade
The leap from Kindergarten to First Grade is ENORMOUS. First Grade offers, for some, a longer school day, a lot more teacher directed whole group and small group instruction, partner work, as well, as more independent work. However, there are also ample opportunities for hands-on, small group learning, and differentiated instruction. The beginning of this school year has involved practicing and learning routines and reviewing our numbers, letters, and basic sight words. The end of year benchmarks include:,
*reading and comprehending enriched literature
*write a detailed paragraph with appropriate spelling and punctuation
*know their addition and subtraction facts fluently up to 10
*able to solve mathematical problems and prove their solutions with pictures, numbers, and words
Please pay special close attention to the weekly Peek at the Weeks and other notes sent home that will review what is being taught, benchmarks your child should be achieving, and ways to help and support at home. These notes also include my comments on your child's paper.
